The Jewish Star, based in Garden City, New York, is a free weekly newspaper that reports from the Orthodox Jewish communities of Nassau County and Queens.
The Jewish Star began publication in 2002 led by founding Publisher and Editor Jody Bodner Dubow. It is owned by Richner Communications Inc., the parent company of Nassau County’s Herald Community Newspapers; Long Island Xpress chain of shopper publications; and the Riverdale Press in the Bronx.
In 2006, the newspaper became exclusively orthodox, responding to the demographics of the Five Towns, its leading readership base. In January 2009, the broadsheet format became tabloid.
Karen C. Green is the publisher and editor as of 2011.[1] The paper's weekly contributors include Alan Jay Gerber, Aviva Rizel, Zechariah Mehler, Rabbi Avi Billet and Sergey Kadinsky. It also features a weekly Hebrew column.
